Mr. Robert Ray Poe, better known as “Bob” age 87, of Jefferson, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 12pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Rosevelt Carlton and Rev. Brenda Ervin officiating.
Burial was made in the Poe Cemetery.
The family received friends on Saturday from 11-12pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Poe was born on May 26, 1932 to the late Dewey and Leeula Spicer Poe. “Bob” was retired from Thomasville Furniture Company, the Phoenix Chair Plant in West Jefferson, NC where he helped lay out pieces for chair production. On his weekends, holidays and many evenings he worked at the funeral home and cemetery digging graves, mowing, and grounds and vehicle maintenance. He worked for J.D. and Bertha Lou Boone at Reins-Sturdivant starting in the early 1960’s and at Ashelawn until 1989. Bob worked for David at Boone Family Funeral Home until he became unable to work. Many people remember Bob for his dedication and being a father figure for his niece and nephews helping care for them. He rarely missed a ball game or a chance to watch them become the adults they are today.
He is survived by sons; Tracy Poe of Boone, David Poe of Raleigh NC, Wesley Poe of Jefferson NC, Mark Poe of Jefferson NC., daughter Kim Poe of Charlotte NC, two brothers; Ralph Poe of Jefferson, and Luther Poe of Willa Grove, PA, one sister; Mary Peal of Willa Grace, PA, his close family; Brittany Luxton and husband Greg of Boone, Julian Poe of Boone, Alyssa Poe of Boone, Tracy Poe, Jr. of Missouri, Jeffrey Poe and wife Mairin of Charlotte, Ashley Poe of Charlotte, Ileana Christensen Poe of Boone, and Jayden Poe of Boone, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
