July 15, 1926 - December 20, 2018
Vivian peacefully passed away on December 20, 2018, in Clovis, California. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's some years ago and recently with breast cancer, which caused her death. She was 92.
Vivian was born on July 15, 1926, to Walter Storms and Lillian (Mummert) Storms in Palatine, Illinois.
Vivian had a beautiful voice and sang often. She sang in the church choir for many many years. An aunt wanted her to join the opera but after visiting her sister, Babe, in Colorado she met and married Arrel S. Black on May 2, 1948. They were blessed with four children, Vickie, Cheryl, Thomas, and Jerry. Many more passed through their doors; whomever needed a hand up or guidance, they were all welcome.
She joined Arrel in 1950 when he was recalled to the military service. They moved to Carbondale in 1952 to help his parents in their store. They moved to Glenwood in 1953 where they lived for nearly 50 years.
In 2001 they moved to Grand Junction and Arrel passed away in 2002. Vivian lived there until she moved to California with her son, Jerry, and wife, Kim, as well as her other son, Thomas, in 2014. This is where she lived until her death.
She was a member of the Rebecca's Lodge, AARP, and volunteered at CMC. She was a stay at home mom and was always devoted to her family.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 53 and one half years, Arrel Black; daughter, Vickie and spouse, Billy Price; son, Thomas Black; five brothers, three sisters, and her parents.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Buzz) Gilliam of Glenwood Springs; son, Jerry (Kim) Black of Fresno California, and the rest of her loving family.
She was a very loving and gracious lady who will be greatly missed by all of us.
Service information will be announced later this year.
