He is preceded in death by his daughter in law, Peggy Carlin and his granddaughter Kelley Carlin.

He worked at Exxon Mobile for 38 years. He started as a mail boy at the age of 17 and retired as a Senior Marketing Specialist. That is where he met Frances and fell in love. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a military police officer. He was a golden glove boxer in the lightweight division. He sang in a barbershop quartet called the Four Echoes. He served as a choir director at his church. He bowled in the Exxon league for years, even after his retirement. He played basketball with the Exxon league. He played softball with the Exxon league and also enjoyed the years he got to play with his friends, as well as both of his sons. He and his buddies played golf weekly after retirement. Did a little fishing, as well. He loved music, especially his Southern Gospel music and Il Divo.

He and Frances spent their retirement years being a part of their children and grandchildren's lives. He loved to treat people to a good meal. He was an extremely generous man. His presence will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donald's memory may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
