Carmine Policicchio, 91, of Vandergrift, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, in the Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights. He was born July 29, 1915, in Calabria, Italy, the son of the late Fortunato and Vincenzia Policicchio. Carmine immigrated to the United States at the age of 19. He lived in the Vandergrift area most of his life. He was employed in coal mines and later at the Apollo Mill as a welder, retiring in 1980. He was a lifelong member of St. Gertrude Church, in Vandergrift, and was a member of the Vandergrift Senior Citizens Center and the Sons of Italy, both in Vandergrift. Carmine's lifelong interest was gardening, and was well-known in the area for tomato plants. He was also an avid baker, and was renowned for his homemade pizzelles and Biscotti. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gallo Policicchio, in 1969; and his second wife, Sue Kuco Policicchio, in 2003. He is survived by three sons, Eugene (Father Luke) Policicchio, of Virginia Beach, Va., Frank (Christina) Policicchio, of Monaca, and James (Kathleen) Policicchio, of Vandergrift; stepdaughter, Elaine Kuco (Louis) Lokosky, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; stepson, Rudy (Joan) Kuco, of Leechburg; eight grandchildren, Greg Policicchio, Gina (Jeff) Liberati, Shelby (Rich) Townsend, Christopher (Kelly) Policicchio, Christopher (Megan) Kuco, Amy Sue (Brian) Amideo, Melayna Lokosky and Laura Lokosky; and six great-grandchildren, Helena, Elizabeth and Benjamin Townsend, Ryan Policicchio, Luca Liberati and Criz Amideo. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be at noon Friday in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father Chad Ficorilli, O.S.B., as celebrant. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell.
