~Louretta "Lou" Barlow Foster~

Lou Barlow Foster is a daughter of Calvin Barlow and Loretta “Rittie” Bentley.
Lou’s given name is listed several ways, including Eliza (1870 Census), Louretta (1880 Census), Mrs. Liow Foster (Lou) (1900 Census), Minerva L. (per application for SSN by her son, Isaac) and Lulu (per marriage certificate of her son, Hardy). Per the application for SSN of Isaac Grady Foster, his father’s name is Robert Foster. Per the marriage certificate of Hardy Foster, his father’s name is Robert G. Foster. And, per the mortuary records for Isaac Foster, the name of his father was Robert Foster and the name of his mother was Louisa Barlow.

Per an entry in the book “Grandfather Community,” Hardie Foster married Lou Barlow and they had two sons, Hard and Isaac. Since both of Lou’s sons stated their father’s name was Robert, it is believed that Hardie was either a nickname or his middle name. There was a Robert Foster living in Watauga County, NC at the time of the 1880 Census. He was born about 1859 in North Carolina. No further record has been found for Robert Foster.

In the 1900 Census, Mrs. Liow (Lou) Foster is living in the Watauga Township of Watauga County as being widowed with two sons, Hardy L. and Gradie I. Foster. Per the 1900 Census, she was born Feb 1861.

In the 1910 Census, Lou’s son, Isaac Grady Foster was living in Wilson’s Creek area of Caldwell County, NC. He was 19 years old and worked as a laborer in a lumber yard. It is believed that he went to Caldwell County to be near his aunt, Carrie Barlow Crump, sister of his mother, Lou Barlow Foster. Carrie's husband, William Riley "Bill" Crump, was also working in a lumber mill in 1910. And, later, Bill Crump built a furniture factory where he made fine furniture.

It is believed that Lou died between 1900 and 1910 as no further record has been found for her.

DNA matches for descendants of Lou Barlow Foster provided proof that Lou Barlow Foster is the daughter of Calvin Barlow and Loretta “Rittie” Bentley and the mother of Isaac Grady Foster and Hardy Harrison Lincoln Foster.
