Steven Stewart "Steve" Murphy, 59 years of age, departed this life peacefully into the arms of his Father on Sunday, July 14th, 2019.

Steve was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on June 27th, 1960, son of Robert Stewart "Bob" Murphy and the late Sally Annette Newell Murphy. Steve grew up hunting, fishing, picking blackberries, climbing trees, gigging frogs, swimming in Lake Cumberland, and sledding down hills on the Newell family farm in Bronston, Kentucky. He always had a soft spot in his heart for dogs, from his first labrador retriever Frazier to Sugar Pie, the Jack Russell pup who is missing him now. He worked on several farms as a handyman, was a self-employed semi driver, and also drove for several trucking firms.

Steve was survived by his father, Robert Stewart "Bob" Murphy and his step-mother, Jo Ann Murphy, both of Hampstead, North Carolina; one son, Daniel Stewart Murphy of Somerset, Kentucky; two daughters, Bobbi Jo Murphy and Kendra Dalton, both of Somerset, Kentucky; one grandson, Adam Stewart Murphy of Shopville, Kentucky; a special girl that he has always called his granddaughter, Adrian Walters of Somerset, Kentucky; one great-granddaughter, Harper Jo Castle; two sisters, Ginger Murphy of Greenwood, Indiana and Gayle Manning of Georgetown, Kentucky; one brother, Tony Murphy of Somerset, Kentucky; his dear friends, Sue Bumgardner and her loving partner, Beverly Morgan, both of whom were compassionate caregivers; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Annette Murphy, who departed this life on April 6th, 1985 and who helped to create God's Food Pantry in Somerset, Kentucky many years ago.

Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 at the Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th, 2019 in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Skaggs officiating.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF STEVE,

If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear, Though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit, that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free. Oh, if you could only see!

I have held our Father's face and I've touched my Savior's hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced as I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl I've walked on the golden streets.

I've touched the walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare, I've even seen our Lords mansion and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because "His Word" will show you the way. So please don't cry because we will meet again someday.
