MRS. HANNAH JANE MITCHELL, 83 of 1543 North Ridge Drive, Stem, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2019.

She was born to the parentage of the late Oscar and Donia Hobgood Green in Granville County, NC. She was raised by her brother Oscar Green, Jr and Thela Green.

Mother Mitchell was a devoted member at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ where she served on the Usher Board and sang in the Celestial Choir until her health declined. Mother Mitchell was a devoted prayer warrior and loved to praise the Lord. She was educated in the Granville County Schools and was retired from Duke Regional Hospital.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her devoted husband, Elijah Glenn Mitchell of 34 years with whom she raised a son, James Mitchell.

Mother Mitchell was preceded in death by her late husband, Theodore Roosevelt Thornton. To this union nine children were born; five daughters, Betty Morgan (Leon) of Stovall, NC, Willie Mae Thornton, Phyllis Green (Ronald) all of Oxford, NC, Wanda Pettiford (Bobby) of Creedmoor NC and Tonya Thornton-Correa (Jose) of Durham NC; four sons, Otha Thornton (Renata), Roosevelt Thornton, Jr (Shirley), Perry Thornton (Orlean) all of Oxford, NC and Jerry Thornton of Durham, NC; one sister Beatrice Thorpe of Butner, NC, and one brother Bishop John H. Green (Helen) of Stanford, CT; 44 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Mother Mitchell was also preceded in death by sisters, Gracie Owens, Bessie Downey, Hallie Downey and one step-sister Mamie Latta; four brothers, Oscar Green, Jr, James W Green, Samuel Green and George Green and two step-brothers Ernest and James Shaffner.

Viewing was from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ by Elder James Williams and Elder Joe Allen.

Burial was made in the church Cemetery.
