Bruce E. Lewis
October 09, 1957 - July 08, 2019Bruce Lewis (201138772)

Suggested edit: Bruce Everett Lewis was supremely blessed to be the son of an only child of Dr. Blanche Hamilton Anderson, and through God’s unquestionable omnipotence, Bruce was not on earth a day without his mother – the joy, the light, and the love of his life.

When the complexities, confusion, and infirmities of life encompassed Bruce’s life, the God in whom he believed called Bruce home and rendered unto him peace, a kind of calming and timely piece, “A peace that passeth all understanding”. This same omnipotent God granted unto Bruce’s mother, Dr. Blanche, the longevity of life that assured her incomparable, sacrificial, inexhaustive love and care of her son from his “going out and his coming in even until the end of the earth”.

Born to Dr. Blanche Hamilton Anderson in Columbia, South Carolina on October 9, 1957, Bruce received his early education at Lyon Street Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina; Joseph S. Craig School in New Orleans, Louisiana; St. Paul of the Cross School in Atlanta, Georgia. Bruce’s formal education culminated with his graduation from St. Joseph’s High School in Atlanta, Georgia, where he displayed his athleticism in football and basketball, and his matriculation at the University of South Carolina where his major concentration was Criminal Justice.

Gifted with an analytical mind with an architectural bent, Bruce pursued early vocations and avocations that were multi-faceted – Delta Airlines, Door Keeper for Georgia Speaker of the House, Tom Murphy, aide in The Cultural Adjustment Program in Atlanta Public Schools. Ultimately, however, vocationally, Bruce found his “home”, utilizing his mind and his hands, to the satisfaction and delight of his family, his friends, and his customers, especially the elderly, who profited from hands that could “fix” anything – plumbing, electrical, appliances, painting, building – and who profited from that quiet, wry sense of humor. Accordingly, Midtown Heritage Painting, the town of Forest Acres, businesses and institutions with whom Bruce arbitrated, the benefactors of “The Community Garden” in his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, his favorite work with his brother-cousin, Marvin – all benefited from his expertise and his talent.

A political news buff, an enthusiasm inherited from his mother, Bruce entertained and instructed co-workers and friends according to his observances and his analyses. Ultimately, God, in His original omnipotence, gave Bruce a soothing of his heart, his psyche, and his being – a soothing that we pray vicariously permeates his mother, Dr. Blanche, who granted her son immeasurable, unceasing, unequivocal love – “forever and ever, AMEN!”

His mother, Dr. Blanche Hamilton Anderson; his only son, Brian E. Lewis, of whom he was immensely proud; his sister, Toykaumi S. Hollins, whom he protected vigorously and who served and encouraged him relentlessly, in his times of illness and of doubt; his brother-cousin Marvin Heller, his “ride or die”, who understood Bruce and assisted Bruce uniquely and unselfishly as God would have us assist our brother; his play mother, Mrs. Bonnie Johnson; his aunt, Mrs. Mary Veal; cousins, other relatives, and friends bid Bruce farewell and thank God for His unanimous and magnanimous promises of peace, repentance, redemption, and for His assurance of ultimate restoration.
