Joy Faye (Thomas) Pierce, 81, of McAlester, died Friday, July 12, 2019 at a local nursing center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ray Jackson, Joel Dryer, Bryan Fields, Mike Albert, Bob Smith, and Leroy Conner.

Honorary pallbearer will be Frank Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 318 E. Choctaw, McAlester, OK 74501.

Joy was born to Clarence and Dessie (Harper) Thomas on September 9, 1937 in Indianola. She attended Indianola school.

Joy married George Pierce on February 23, 1952 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

She worked as a food service supervisor for McAlester Regional Health Center where she worked for over 40 years.

She loved to fish, garden, and raise chickens. Joy was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Dessie Thomas, sisters: Anna Mae Bowen and Ella Jo Downs, and son-in-law: David Heskett.

Joy is survived by her husband of 67 years: George Pierce of the home; daughters: Jewell Fields and husband, David of High Hill, Norma Smith and husband, Kim of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lucille Heskett of McAlester, Gale Stanfield and husband, Kevin Buena Vista, Colorado.

Also grandchildren: Shellie Dean and husband, Michael of Edmond, Bryan Fields of High Hill; Carla Albert and husband, Mike of Oklahoma City, Kristi Dryer and husband, Joel of Woodland Park, Colorado; Krystal Jackson and husband, Ray of Silt, Colorado; Kolby Pierce of Las Vegas, Nevada; great-grandchildren: Breanna Ragan, Loren Cox, Madyson Fields, J. D. Dryer, Judah Dryer, Gavin Albert; great-great-grandchild: Brynlee Sistrunk; brother-in-law: Robert Mason of Inola; and other family members and friends.
