Allen “Gene” Eugene White, 79, of Austin, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2019.
Gene was born in Cameron, Texas on May 27, 1940, the son of William Allen and Johnnie (Malone) White. He graduated in 1958 from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, TX. Gene attended Schreiner University in Kerrville, graduating as Valedictorian of his class in 1960 with an A.A. and Engineering degree. He then furthered his education, attending the University of Texas and obtaining his B.A. in Mathematics, graduating Cum Loude, in 1962. In 1965, Gene proudly received his Master’s Degree.
He married the love of his life, Marilyn Scholtz, on September 11, 1965 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange, Texas.
Gene worked for TRACOR Hydroscopic Division in 1965. His professional career later led him to work as both a Program Analyst, Data Processing Consultant, and System Analyst. Before his retirement in 2000, he held a position as a Program Analyst at Texas State Purchasing.
Gene will be remembered for his light hearted and joking nature. He loved studying mathematics and working with numbers. Often times, he could be found in his study reading books, and very much enjoyed collecting various novels and short stories. Gene treasured spending time with his family and friends.
He spent a portion of his final months in the care of New Haven Memory Care in Bastrop. Gene’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of New Haven Memory Care for their kindness and excellent care that they had provided to Gene. They especially send their deepest appreciation to Chef Tish, for her thoughtfulness and truly going the extra mile in preparing delicious meals for Gene to enjoy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 53 years; sister, Barbara Lara of Baytown; three nephews: Dr. Bert Vasut and his wife, Chana, of Elgin, TX; Dr. Brent Vasut, and his wife, Stephanie, of Galveston, TX; and Stephen Lara of Baytown, TX; one niece, Tami Sladek, and her husband, Dr. Jim Sladek, of La Grange; along with numerous great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lee and Rosie Scholtz; sister-in-law, Roselyn Vasut; brother-in-law, Paul Lara; and nephew, Monte Ray Vasut.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl St., La Grange, TX. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the interment taking place at the La Grange City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 567, La Grange, TX 78945; Schreiner University Hill Country College Fund, 2100 Memorial Blvd., Kerrville, TX 78028; Alzheimer’s Association, 3520 Executive Center Dr., Ste. 140, Austin, TX 78731; or to a charity of one’s choice.
