Mr. Billy Irvin Barton, 84, of Thomas Street, Mr. Billy Irvin Barton, 84, of Thomas Street, Elberton, husband of 25 years to the late Mildred Dean Mercer Barton, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Mr. Barton was born in Hart County on November 25, 1934, son of the late Joe Barton and Elsie Fleming Barton. He was a graduate of Bowman High School and a U.S. Army Veteran. Billy retired from the maintenance department at Westinghouse, and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25.

He is survived by his step children: Rhoda Albertson of Elberton, Randy Mercer of Dunwoody, and Richard Mercer of Newberry, SC; grandchildren: Juli Miller, Clint Dickerson, and Audrey Mercer; and great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Allison, Stella, and Alivia.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, July 14, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Huff officiating. Private interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at the residence of Paul and Rhoda Albertson, 818 Sherwood Drive, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church of Elberton Ramp Ministry, 132 Heard Street, Elberton, GA 30635.
