Funeral Service for Roger William Pearson, 83, of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Patrick Jenkins officiating. Pallbearers will be David Pearson, Bruce Nelson, Tony Satrang, Sheldon Liebl, Wade Johnson, and Dustin Brinkman. Organist will be Ollie Yost, pianist Michelle Greseth with special music by Grace Lutheran Senior Choir, Jenny Nelson, and Amy Nelson. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel.

Roger was born on October 26, 1935 to Arthur and Dora (Kaufman) Pearson at Sisseton, SD. He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1953. Roger married Marlys Dahl on December 12, 1954. They were parents to John, Jim, Tammy, and Melissa. He was involved in several community groups throughout his life; Recreation Board, Sisseton Fire Department, Valley View Country Club Board, Sisseton City Council, served as Mayor of Sisseton, Grace Lutheran Council and President. He was an agent for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance (now Thrivent) and served his patrons as a Rural Mail Carrier for many years.

Music was an important part of Roger’s life. He sang in the Grace Lutheran Choir for 40 years. Roger was also involved in several Dance Bands, most notably the “Harold Johnson Band” for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Dakota Musicians Association Hall of Fame (DMA) in 2014 and also was part of the FFA National Chorus for 2 years in High School.

Roger married Estelle Reierson on August 19, 1995 at Grace Lutheran Church. They continued to live in Sisseton and winter in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Roger passed away on July 13, 2019 at Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown, SD.

Roger is survived by his wife Estelle; children John (Cindy) Pearson, Jim (Gayle) Pearson, Tammy (Tom) Satrang, and Melissa (Joe) Brewster; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; stepdaughters Kristi Reierson-McWayne and Karen Reierson; sister-in-law Edith Pearson; and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marlys; a brother Lewis; nephews Larry and Randy; and great grandson Bryce Nelson.

Memorials can be given to Grace Lutheran Foundation or Lutherans Outdoors in South Dakota.
