He was a part of the crew of the B-17, "Old Ironsides", based out of England, that was shot down in the summer of 1943 over Germany on their 20th mission. He spent 22 months in prison camp Stalag Luft 3.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Hastings Pentz and wife; and a grandfather, Arthur Hollick. He was survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene Caffrey Pentz; two sons and their spouses; a daughter and her spouse; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment for him and his wife on July 12, 2019.
