There was no memorial service. Fred will continue to help others by gifting his remains to the University of Nebraska medical school.
Fred was born to Charles and Mildred (Niles) Cooper on April 15, 1934, at Hartney, Manitoba, Canada. The family came to Mondamin in 1937. He attended school in Mondamin until 1945.
The family then moved to Magnolia where he graduated high school in 1953.
Fred married Josephine Denny on Jan. 9, 1955. They lived and worked in Omaha, Neb., until 1964 when they moved to Mondamin and bought his great-great-grandfather's house by Round Lake. Fred last worked for the Farmers Coop at Mondamin where he drove a propane truck until retiring in 1999.
Fred served on the Harrison County Conservation Board for 12 years and was a Mason with Valley Lodge #232.
Fred has always had an interest in many things – he never stopped wanting to learn. His last hobby was learning to use antique rope-making machines. He enjoyed volunteering at many places to share his knowledge and show children and adults how the rope machines worked. He especially enjoyed demonstrating at the Harrison County Historical Historical Village and Iowa Welcome Center outside Missouri Valley and at the Loess Hills Lavender Farm north of Missouri Valley.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Charles Cooper.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine; daughters, Judie (Steven) Hayward of Sioux City, Alice (Steve) Howerton of Modale, and Susan Cooper of Mondamin; and his brother, Roy (Sharon) Cooper of Magnolia.
