Family Tribute

Grandma Judy had a deep love for her family, and she was loved by her family and neighborhood, where she lived in the same house for over 50 years. We knew Grandma Judy as a persistent woman and a hard worker. The memories we cherish most with her come from the countless days we spent at her house during the summer. These are the memories we will keep forever.

We recall how she loved to tell stories, especially of events that occurred throughout her life. We’ve heard about her long walks to school (uphill both ways), perseverance in difficult classes, life on the farm, and her work in the beauty shop. From as early as we can remember, she shared her love of reading with us. We sat on her lap while she read us our favorite books before nap time. She walked with us to the library, nearly every day, encouraging us to fill our bags with books, and she enrolled us in summer reading programs. We also remember how she was always busy, typically spending her time outside gardening. We picked fresh strawberries from the garden and brought them in for her to wash and douse with sugar before giving them back to us. Lastly, we remember dressing up and getting our hair curled for our yearly JCPenney photo shoot. Our favorite part of this event was walking around the entire mall with her afterward to pick out the perfect new accessory or piece of clothing.

Grandma Judy was important to so many people and in many different ways, as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, neighbor, and friend. These are just a few ways she was important to us, her granddaughters.
