It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Neal Atkinson announce his passing after his courageous fight against cancer on Tuesday, July 9th, 2019 at the age 68 years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Atkinson; children Tony Atkinson (Brenda), Becky Atkinson (Katie), Brenda Parker, Randy McDonald, James McDonald, and Christy Hubbard. He will also be fondly remembered by his 18 grandchildren Casey (Abby), Sara (Anna), Rachel (Brandon), Jeremy (Tricia), Morgan, Aaron, Garrett, Ricky, Keith, Mary, Chester, Nancy, Ben, Christian, Julie, Trinity, Benjamin and Emily; and his 20 great-grandchildren, Brooke, Laci, Phillip, Coral, Sage, Channing, Emmett, Adelynn, John, Matthew, Adrean, Adian, Kailey, Kylan, Chester, Kizer, Brinxton, Easton, Braylen and Liana; and by his brothers, Bobby Atkinson, Chuck Atkinson, Kenny Atkinson (Tammy). He will forever be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. He was preceded by his father, Robert Owen Atkinson, mother, Nancy Mae Dickey, and brothers, James Atkinson, Cecil Atkinson, and Dewan Kilburn. Roger lived most of his life in the Lexington area. He served proudly as a Marine during the Vietnam war. While raising his children, he worked as a roofer, security guard at various companies, served two terms as an elected Constable for Fayette County, and retired as a bus driver for LexTran. Roger most enjoyed spending time with his family and was a big fan of all things UK, especially basketball. He always had a fondness of horse racing, where he spent many hours watching the races on television when they could not make it to the track to watch it in person. To know Roger, was to know that he was all about family. He was happiest when he spent time with the young grandkids and great grandkids. All will greatly miss his sense-of-humor, his laugh and great big ole’ heart. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Jessamine County, Kentucky.
