Specialist Christian Duaine Ward passed away, surrounded by family, on June 28, 2019 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Marietta, Ohio on January 26th, 1996 to Gary D. Ward and Heather A. Perry.
Christian Ward enlisted into the United States Army on July 21, 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training for the 15T UH-60 Blackhawk Mechanic Course at Fort Eustis, Virginia. His duty assignments include UH-60M Crew Chief and ALSE Technician with Charlie Company and 2-4th General Support Aviation Battalion located in Fort Carson, Colorado with whom he deployed once to Romania and Bulgaria while assigned to Task Force Comanche in support of Atlantic Resolve. His military education includes Aviation Life Support Equipment Technician, Helicopter Repairer, and the Combat Lifesaver Course. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Aviation Badge.
He is survived by his parents Gary (Karla) Ward and Heather Perry; siblings, Wyatt (Matison), Tina (Lauren), Jordyn (Brandon), Jace, and Jevin; grandparents, Helen Perry and Gale Richey; aunts, Beth Ward, Lisa Miller, Kelly Ryan, and Kriss Wolford; uncles, Jason Ward and Brian Wolford; nephew Ian Auflick; and cousins, Whitney, Cassie, Kristy, Nicole, Rachel, Brittney, Tyler, Mattigan, and Emmalee. Additionally, Chris’s life was enriched with many extended family members, those by blood and those by love. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Burl Perry, Beverly Ward, and Jon Richey.
The family would like to thank Nate Smith, who saved Chris’s life after his accident. He gave family members the opportunity to be with him in his final days and allowed Chris to give his final gift: saving up to eight lives through organ donation. We would also like to thank his doctors and nurses, specifically Lindsay Kelly, at Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs for the care and compassion given throughout his fight.
Finally, we would like to thank Chris’s military family, who not only surrounded him in the hospital and supported our family throughout this unimaginable time, but who also took him in as family while he was stationed in Colorado as well as overseas.
A memorial celebration will be held on July 13, 2019, at Beverly United Methodist Church in Beverly, Ohio. Family and friend visitation will be from 12:30 pm – 2 pm. A military honors ceremony will follow.
Chris lived his life to the fullest, while at the same time serving others through his time, energy, care, and financial support. We would love to carry on his giving spirit by supporting other young men and women who are joining the military.
