A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Taylorsville for Sharon K. Blackwell, 59 of Taylorsville, who passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019, at the Merit Health-Wesley Care Center in Hattiesburg.

Reverend Paul Keys will officiate at the services with interment at a later date in the Barnes Cemetery in Taylorsville. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville will be in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville.

Ms. Blackwell was born on December 28, 1959 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend. Ms. Blackwell was a graduate of Jones County Junior College, and William Carey College with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. She retired from the Covington County School System after thirty-three years of service as an elementary school teacher at Hopewell Elementary School. She was a certified emergency communications dispatcher for the Covington County Sheriff’s Department and Central Dispatch for the last thirty-two years. Ms. Blackwell was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Society, and the Calhoun Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby Brooks Blackwell and Wilma Lee Wilson Blackwell.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey P. Blackwell of Taylorsville; one brother and sister-in-law, David Wayne and Jennifer Blackwell of Taylorsville; one nephew, John David Blackwell of Taylorsville; an aunt, Myrna Loy Rice of Taylorsville; and a host of cousins and close friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be her best friends, Ollie Crosby, Annette Turner, and Angie Barr Palmer.
