Ellen Christine Freeman, 77, a longtime resident of Joplin, passed away Wednesday evening, May 29, 2013, at Freeman Hospital West after a brief illness.

Born July 10, 1935, in Parkersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Paul Jones and Donna Dell Cain Griffith.

She was a certified nursing assistant for seven years at Sale Memorial Hospital, Neosho, retiring in 1993. She also was a health-care provider in private homes for many years.

She sustained injuries in the May 22, 2011, tornado in Joplin, and was among a handful of people who survived a rare fungal infection.

Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Ann Hutchison and companion Matt Keller, of Joplin, and Janet Lynn Holsombach, of Joplin; two sons, Nicholas Paul DeLong and fiancee Debi Rodgers, of Neosho, and Rodney E. DeLong, of Joplin; two sisters, Cheri Beth Lindhorst and husband, Tom, of Frisco, Colo., and Donna Sue Stacy and husband, Joe, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Paul Holsombach, Richie Holsombach and wife Andrea, Erin Hutchison and companion Thomas Lett, Christopher Hutchison, Monica DeLong, Nicole DeLong Ring and husband William and Travis DeLong; six great-grandchildren, Baylee, Claire and Zachary Holsombach, Julian Lett, Aria and Alena Holsombach, Adalyn DeLong and Jordyn Ring.

A grandson, Dominique DeLong, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin. Pastor Jeff Werda will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

Pallbearers will be Richie Holsombach, Christopher Hutchison, Nick DeLong, Thomas Lett, Matt Keller, and Mark Krug.

Memorial contributions may be made to Seventh Day Adventist Church in care of Parker Mortuary.
