He was a United States Army veteran who served during World War II, where he received several medals and awards including his Purple Heart. He was a 50-year devoted member of Gospel Assembly Church in Terre Haute. He enjoyed gardening and loved flowers.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Miley Henson, whom he married April 5, 1946. Other survivors include six children, Sondra Young and her husband Ron of Terre Haute, Jewellann Davis and her husband Paul of Martinsville, Alfred Henson Jr. and his wife Vicki, Cheryl Goetz and her husband Jerry, Mark Henson and his wife Sara, and Jim Henson and his wife Kelly all of Terre Haute. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Janice McCullough, and Pamela Darlene Henson; one brother, Don Henson, and one sister Ethal Arms.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the Reverends Earl Andrew Hutcheson and Daniel Dycus officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park with VFW Post 972 performing graveside military rites.
