Obituary: ian Taber was born September 4, 1967, the son of Gary and Judy (Groff) Taber in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm SW of Lake Park, graduating from Harris Lake Park High School in 1986. He was very active in 4-H and FFA, showing hogs and cattle at Dickinson and Clay County Fairs. A highlight was attending the National FFA Convention in Kansas City. Brian has been a people person since he learned to talk. He always loved animals, from feeding hogs and milking cows to caring for all of the stray cats of the neighborhood.

Following high school, he was employed by Lorch Pork, then the Co-op elevator at Round Lake, MN. He owned and operated a Grade A dairy for several years. Brian also cooked noon meals at Hillside and had a wide following for the salad bar he made for steak night. After working for Spencer Livestock Sales, Brian was employed by Lynch Livestock in May, 2001, running station #56 in Whittemore, Iowa. He was privileged to be part of the Lynch Barbecue Team that cooked for the tailgate party prior to the Iowa State/Nebraska game this past fall. After being an overnight guest of Coach Dan McCarney, Brian cooked an omelet breakfast for the coach, his wife and all the other guests. He loved to cook, especially for large parties. He was active in the Whittemore Commercial Club and was looking forward to participating in their upcoming Chili Cookoff. His pride and joy was his niece, ten month old Emma, and took every opportunity to show her off.

Brian passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005 in Whittemore at thirty-seven years of age.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Bradley Lynn, his grandparents, Herb and Viola Taber, and Leslie Groff.

Brian is survived by his parents, Gary and Judy Taber; sister Lisa Niswander and her husband Neil; niece, Emma; grandmother, Mildred Groff; uncle and aunt, Wayne and Becky Groff, and cousins Jennifer Groff and Joanna Nohr and her husband Derek.
