A reception followed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Hall. Amy was born June 3, 1984 in Lubbock to Benito and Juanita Garcia. Growing up, Amy was a natural star. Being raised in a big loving family on both her mother and father‘s side, Amy loved being around people. She was the light of our family and always kept us laughing. Growing up she excelled in everything she tried. She loved to dance, laugh, and put her heart into everything she did. She was a folklorico dancer at a young age and won La Reiña de La Jamaica of Slaton in 2000. In high school, she was in the Slaton band and ROTC. Being in these programs she became a social butterfly and loved every second. She graduated from Slaton High School in 2001. at the age of 21 Amy had a beautiful baby boy, Jacob ray Maldonado. This began her journey into life and mother-hood. Working at various jobs Amy always stayed positive and motivated. She was finally able to accomplish her main goal; she graduated from South Plains College of Cosmetology and walked the stage in 2016. Her first job was at Veronica’s Salon and then there after worked as a hairstylist, free-lancing. During this time, she met a lot of amazing people. Most of which became best friends, if not family. No matter if she met you for 5 minutes or knew you her whole life, she embraced you with open arms with nothing but love. She loved every single one of you. Soon after her great aunt was admitted to the Slaton Care Center, she provided her talents to the Center by caring and sharing her love by hair styling the residents. She soon became best friends with all our loved ones who were and are still residents. She truly enjoyed spending time laughing and listening to everyone’s stories. She moved to San Antonio in 2017. Amy found another passion and became a successful eye lash technician, working for amazing Lash Studio. During this time, she truly became a strong, independent mother. She strived every day to give her son the best. There wasn’t a day that passed by that she didn’t make the most of. Amy never forgot who she was or where she came from. She loved visiting our father and family in Mexico. She would visit often as it brought her so much joy to see all of your faces. Amy resided in Acuna, Mexico for the last year. Her greatest gift to us was not only her spirit and laughter but her son. Jacob ray Maldonado. He gave her a love she always deserved and more. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. Amy had a heart of gold. It is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to such a sweet soul. May we never for-get her voice, laughter or the sweet memories. May she live on forever through her beautiful son who will only continue to make her proud. Amy is survived by her son, Jacob ray Maldonado of Slaton; her mother, Juanita Garcia of Slaton; her father, Benito Garcia of Acuna, Mexico; her sister, Veronica Garcia of Manhattan, NY; and her brother, Andy Garcia of Lubbock.
