Toni Sue Adams, 56, of Mannford, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, following complications of gallbladder infection.

A funeral service will be held at the Weaver Memorial Sanctuary at Kiowa Cemetery on Friday, July 12, at 1:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.

Born August 17, 1962 in McAlester at St. Mary’s Hospital, Toni was the daughter of Don Edward Adams and Violet Leona (Cates) Adams of Kiowa. Toni attended Kiowa Public School from kindergarten (Headstart) through her senior year in high school. She graduated from Kiowa High in 1980.

Following high school, Toni graduated in 1984 from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant with a BA degree in elementary education. Her first teaching job after graduation was for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Kayenta, Arizona where she taught pre-school Navajo Indian children at a government boarding school for five years.

After returning to Oklahoma from Arizona, Toni continued teaching pre-school children in Pittsburg County for several years. In the late ‘90s, Toni began training full time at Durant Regional Hospital to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. As an LPN, Toni worked for several years for various home health institutions in McAlester and Tulsa. Four years ago, she returned to her love of instructing young children, and was teaching at a Tulsa elementary school at time of her death.

Toni married Rick Martin from Tulsa in 2005, and they lived in Mannford at the time of her death.

Survivors include her husband: Rick Martin of Mannford, brothers: Dr. Don Adams, II and wife, Wanda of Hixson, Tennessee, Randy Adams and wife, Ruby of Plano, Texas; nephews: Dr. Don Adams, III and Matthew Adams; niece: Melissa (Adams) Wysong; and numerous cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Sharon Kay Adams, and nephew: Jonathan Drew Adams.
