William “Bill” George Goss left this earthly life and ran into the arms of Jesus on July 10, 2019. Bill was born to Fred and Alma Goss on November 4, 1934 in Coleman, Texas. Bill was raised in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. After high school, he went to work for Republic Oil and on April 8, 1955, married Jeannie Evans of Burkett, Texas. Bill and Jeannie were parents to three children and lived in Coleman until 1969. While in Coleman Bill worked for Rockwell Bros Lumberyard. In 1969, Bill and his family moved to Lueders, Texas to manage Rockwell Bros. Lumberyard. Bill eventually had the opportunity to purchase the lumberyard. He owned and operated Lueders Building Supply until 1985.
Bill served as member and chief of the Lueders Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He also served as a member of the Lueders Lions Club, Lueders-Avoca school board, and the Army National Guard. Bill was a member of the Lueders Church of Christ.
Surviving Bill are son Rodney Goss of Hawley, daughter Cindy Ford and husband Rex of Stamford, and daughter, Charlotte Vogler and husband Monty of Abilene. Bill was “Pappy” to 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by what he considered his second family – the staff at Stamford Residence and Rehab.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sister.
Bill’s family would like to extend deep gratitude to the staff of Stamford Residence and Rehab and Hospice of the Big Country. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill’s grandsons and grandsons in law.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman. Friends and family will gather for visitation from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019 at the funeral home.
