GLOUCESTER: Cory W. Andersen, 23, died unexpectedly at his residence on July 15, 2007.
Born in Salem on February 13, 1984, he was the son of Laurie “Erin” Andersen.
He had resided in Salem until moving to Gloucester at the age of 10. Cory was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 2002 and received his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Bay State College.
He had served as an intern for the Gloucester Police Department and his dream was to become a police officer and work in his hometown. He had recently taken the entrance exam for the Police Academy.
Cory was currently working as a security guard for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Andover. He had previously been employed by Enterprise Rental in both Gloucester and Peabody.
He was a member of the Sea Hawks pee-wee football team who won the championship and traveled to Georgia for the finals. During his high school years, he was a running back for the Fighting Fishermen and was a member of the team that won the Super Bowl. Cory was also an accomplished musician and played drums at Art Space and for local bands. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Richard L. Roy, his maternal grandmother, Caroline T. (Campbell) Andersen of South Hamilton, an aunt, Julie Marie, wife of Andrew Frakes of Mentor, OH, an uncle, Timothy V., husband of Stacey Andersen of Hampton, NH, cousins Isabella and Angelina Frakes and Hailey and Jeffrey Andersen, as well as many second cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Robert V. Andersen.
His funeral service will be held on Friday evening at the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 6 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4 – 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Following the conclusion of the service, the family will be releasing balloons in celebration of Cory’s spirit. Those who wish may bring a balloon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cory W. Andersen Memorial Fund, c/o TD Banknorth, Harbor Loop, Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held privately.
