Army Pfc. Jerimiah J. Veitch was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. Veitch died of wounds sustained when his vehicle was struck with a rocket-propelled grenade. Jerimiah moved to Dibble, Oklahoma from San Jose, California with his mother Valorie and stepfather Tony Sanchez before high school. He graduated from Dibble High School in 2004 where he won 2nd in the State Weight Lifters Competition and played football. He enjoyed football and Harley Davidson motorcycles. After graduation, he worked at a roofing and sheet metal company before joining the Army. He began his tour of duty in October 2006 and it was to end in January 2008. Jerimiah was the type of guy that didn't do anything half way – it was all or nothing. On his last mission, he had the option to stay behind because of wounds suffered the week before. He chose to go and not leave his comrades without cover knowing that this was an especially dangerous patrol. While on his last patrol, Jerimiah was atop his hummer - his position was gunner of a .50 caliber machine gun. As they passed a concrete wall barrier, the enemy jumped up from behind the wall and launched a rocket-propelled grenade at his back. Jerimiah had planned to get his name legally changed to Sanchez because he considered Tony Sanchez to be his real father.

NOTE: The military has his name listed as above. However, his family has his name listed as Jeremiah James Veitch Sanchez.
