Revolutionary War Militia General. He is best known for his military activities in what was then known as the British Northwest Territory during the Revolutionary War, which was ceded to the United States in the 1783 Treaty of Paris, and was commonly referred to as the "Conqueror of the Old Northwest," or the "Washington of the West."
