Marilyn, e Monroe passed away on April 23, 2019. She was born to Lloyd and Emily (Sawyer) Monroe.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish Sue's memory are her brother, Bill (Chong Sun) Monroe; sister, Edie Dykeman; nieces and nephews, Barbara and Debra Dykeman, Chris (Karen) Monroe, Janet Monroe (Henrik Persson); great nieces and nephews, David Rodriguez, Shannon, Isla, Sofia Monroe, and Majken Persson; and extended family, Sara Dykeman and Autumn West.
Aunt Susie loved her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was always so much fun for us and could make us laugh. Part of her love for family and roots got her into researching genealogy on both her Mother and Fathers side of the family. she loved talking about it and telling us the stories that she learned along the way. Even made connections with family that I can now connect with and carry on the search to find our roots.
She moved a lot (Washington D.C., North Carolina, Houston Texas, Fort Worth Texas) but had a love for the old West. She loved Louie L'amour books and even has a map that showed the movements and family territories to follow while she re-read the whole set she owned. She loved to watch old westerns and romance. She loved Cary Grant, Elvis then Sam Elliott and Tom Selleck in the Westerns. When we were younger we would have movie marathons and go visit her and watch them all day. She finally made her own Journey West when she transferred from Lansing to Columbia Missouri and then on to Utah. She absolutely loved Utah. Only came back to Michigan a year ago to be closer to family. She bonded with David when she got back and got him into Roy Rogers.
She loved to cook, not a baker but sure could cook. Had a HUGE collection of cookbooks. Traveled all over with my grandparents and then later even on her own exploring the West while she lived in Utah.
She was very involved in Toast masters. She loved that as she progressed she go to help others be successful in the club. She was even looking forward to going and visiting her club in Utah. She made district Governor and was the educator and absolutely loved that she did that.
Earlier on she was an Eastern Star in Williamston Michigan where she lead as the Worthy Matron. She could also sing and did so for special events with the Eastern Stars and skits she performed.
She worked for Auto Owners I would have to look up the number of years but started as a temp and they hired her. She worked at home office in Lansing and then transferred to Missouri and then on to Utah where she retired.
