Perry R. “Cotton” Jones,73, of Bessemer, Al. passed away on Monday July 8, 2019 after a brief battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. He was a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church for 64 years. He served in the U.S. Navy, first in the Navy Choir, where he participated with them at the funeral of President John F. Kennedy, then as a Navy Seal during the Viet Nam War and was a P.O.W. He worked for Hercules Powder Company, Jim Walter Mines and Drummond ABC Coke plant. He loved fishing, hunting, archery, and playing pool. He was a very talented singer and enjoyed singing karaoke with friends. He was also an accomplished martial arts instructor.

Perry” Cotton” was preceded in death by his parents Robert A. “Buck” and Olene Jones. He is survived by his sister & caregiver Gay Lynn Lindsey (Kermit “Dude”), niece, Laura Bruner (Eric), great nieces Annie and Liddy Bruner and great nephew Eli Bruner and his little dog, Penny. Many thanks to longtime friend Evelyn Flowers for her help in assisting the family with Perry.

The visitation will be Friday July 12, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Peoples Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Valley Creek Cemetery, Brother Bob Weber officiating. The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to Valley Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
