Mrs. Mildred Blanch Benefield Patterson, age 90, of Buncombe, GA, peacefully passed away July 9, 2019.

She was born August 10, 1928, in Buncombe to the late James C. and Lavada Bates Benefield.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William “Rudy” Patterson; a grandson, Joel Patterson; and two brothers, Howard Benefield and Homer Benefield.

Mrs. Patterson was a lifelong resident of the Buncombe Community. She was Valedictorian of the Buncombe High School Class of 1945 and has been attending Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church for all of her 90 years. She loved Sacred Harp singings.

She was famous for her food and generosity. All the coaches and volunteers of the Haralson County Invitational Tournament knew to arrive early every night to get the best scoops of the dish she had prepared, especially her dressing. Each night of the tournament she made a different meal.

She was the best at sending cards. She prepared each month’s birthday cards ahead of time to make sure the loved one received them, even if she had a stint in the hospital. She was the ultimate prayer warrior. When someone was needing a prayer, she would tell the story so completely, one wondered when she took a breath. Mrs. Patterson was the most kind and thoughtful person. The love she gave to everyone will be missed and always remembered.

She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, Elder Tommy and Joan Patterson, Craig and Joyce Patterson, Randy Patterson and Mary Ellen McPherson, and Lewis and Sheila Patterson, all of Buncombe; eight grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; and her two best friends, Ellen Robinson Walters and Bea Robinson Ellis, both of Buncombe.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mark Haynes, Elder Dave Chandler, and Elder Will Mullins officiating. Prayers will be given by Clint Patterson and Elder Tommy Patterson.

Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be Jacob Patterson, Devin Patterson, Mason Patterson, Clint Patterson, Kevin Hicks, Jeremy Cohran, Chad Cantrell, and Adam Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Benefield, Mike Benefield, Jaxon Cohran, Derick Biggers, Zack Robinson, Sammy Robinson, Darius Biggers, Wesley Clackum, Noah Robinson, Kent Williams, Lawrence Robinson, and Donnie Horsley.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery Highway 100 Tallapoosa, GA 30176 with Rev. Lawrence Robinson officiating.

The family will receive friends at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 2:00 to 9:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Patterson and her family request that donations be made to Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church or to Tanner Hospice.

Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
