Doris Porter, 95, died on July 1, 2019 at Covenant House Adult Family Care. She was born on April 1, 1924 in Huron, South Dakota, the daughter of William McKinley and Veda Lauretta (Peters) Quick. After graduating high school, she moved to Pasco where she worked on a military base during the war. She then moved back to South Dakota where she was married; they then returned to the Yakima area in 1955. Doris had numerous jobs and careers working in the insurance field for many years. She owned Doris’ 11th Avenue Dress Shop, Doris’ Dippy Dog Stand, took school photographs, was a hostess at the airport, was a hostess at the Yakima Firing Center, as well as a cashier in Las Vegas.

Doris loved to make things with her hands. She would make ceramics and silk flower arrangements. She was very active with her great-grandchildren; she would go to all their sporting events. Her passion was always dancing, she would dance any time there was music playing and would go to all the dance halls around town. She enjoyed playing cards with her friend Betty and played cards with her great-grandkids often also.

Doris is survived by her three children, Linda (Joe) McClure, Peggy Miller, and Kim (Donna) Hougnon; seven grandchildren, Shari, Nicole, Shane, Stacy, Tracy, Cody, and Colton, as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Alene Simpson, and brother, Arthur Quick.
