Thomas J. Schroeder passed away in his sleep at home on July 5, 2019.

He is survived by his husband, David D. Casson, stepdaughter, Courtenay Casson, stepson, Christopher Casson, father, William (Sandy) Schroeder, all of Valparaiso, sisters, Danielle (Dylan) Gregory of Indianapolis, Cheyanne Schroeder of Valparaiso, Terri (Keith) Kamanaroff of FL, Patricia Schroeder of FL; brother, Robert (Lynn) Schroeder of Portage; daughters, Britton (Bradley) Weitzel of IL, Chelsea (Jacob Vincent) Schroeder of Valparaiso; grandson, Benjamin Vincent of Valparaiso; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Henderson, stepfather, William Henderson and aunt, Sandra Hill.

Thomas was born November 7, 1963 in Valparaiso, Indiana. He was a Freemason, member of Porter Lodge #137, Valparaiso and Hazel Chapter #390, Order of the Eastern Star, Crete, Illinois.

He attended Metropolitan Community Church Illiana in Portage, singing in the choir.

He was a graduate of Valparaiso High School, Class of 1981, playing the upright bass in their orchestra and competing on the swimming team.

He worked many years for Dairy Queen, when his family owned the Valparaiso Dairy Queens as well as in restaurant and hotel management both in Northwest Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. He was a professional cake decorator and loved baking. At the time of his death he was working for UGN in Valparaiso.

Thomas loved his flower garden, maintaining the lawn, barbequing, walking at the beach and cycling. He loved music, watching movies, celebrating Christmas and being with his family. He was a man of deep faith in God, with a kind and generous heart.
