Warren Michael Kuhn passed from this world July 5, 2019, following a life filled with laughter, strength and love.
Warren was born July 16, 1947, to Leroy C. and Lois (Burnett) Kuhn and raised in Kansas City. He was proud to have been raised by the strong women in his life including his mother; his aunts, Florence and Carol Burnett; and his grandmother, Ruth Burnett.
He graduated from Paseo High School in 1965 and worked his way through college as a proud “Fighting Roo,” graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. His love of history and reading was profound.
Warren was a proud veteran, enlisting in 1968 and retiring after 20 years of service as a major. He was stationed in Germany for several years and served with the Missouri National Guard the remainder of his career.
Warren married Cathy Happy on Aug. 24, 1974, in Kansas City, where they lived for 32 years and raised two children. The pair loved to travel and were known for driving countless miles, simply for the joy of the ride. Warren was a car man, valuing vehicles of all kinds and the work that went with that passion. He could name a car at 50 meters and owned many vehicles, but counted his 1972 Stingray Corvette among his favorites.
Warren’s professional endeavors were many, including 20 years with Hallmark Cards and many years working for Saturn car dealerships, where he thrived in customer service – a combination of two of his passions, cars and helping people.
Warren was a consummate story teller, with an inability to “make a long story short,” always to the benefit of the listener. He was a kind and thoughtful man, an excellent gift-giver and always offered support to anyone who needed a helping hand. He was passionate about his family and all of his friends, whom he always considered to be family. His children were his pride and joy. He constantly bragged about them, much to their dismay and secret pride. He was a constant mentor, providing guidance and advice to anyone he could help.
He was a beer man and enjoyed a good meal of any kind. He always ordered unsweetened iced tea, because as he was fond of saying, “I’m sweet enough.” Warren loved a good party and enjoyed dancing, especially with his beautiful bride. He enjoyed westerns of all kinds, but especially those with John Wayne. “Horse Soldiers” was his all-time favorite.
Warren is survived by his children, Scott Kuhn (wife, Rebecca and child, Tarra) and Heather Kuhn Roelker (husband, William and children, Jackson Warren and Benjamin Colin); his cousin, Marcia Skaggs; and so many other family and friends we can’t possibly list them all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years and both of his parents. To make a long story short, he was a wonderful man, bringing joy and laughter to many and will be greatly missed.
