Peacefully and with quiet dignity, Marie-Anne Daudet passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 1999, at the Tache Centre at the age of 100 years.

Marie-Anne was born in Guern, France on December 7, 1898. She came to Canada with her parents in 1905 and settled in St. Claude, Manitoba. In 1921 she married Emile Daudet and came to reside in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba. In 1956, Marie-Anne moved to St. Boniface.

Her exceptional culinary art took her as "menagere" to the parishes of La Salle, St. Norbert and for many years in St. Boniface "chez les Peres Blancs d'Afrique".

After her retirement at the age of 85, Marie-Anne continued to be very active enjoying her love of knitting, her family and friends will remember her fondly for the scarves, mittens and warm socks she lovingly made for them.

Marie-Anne was predeceased by her husband Emile in 1951; three daughters in infancy (Emilienne [May, 1922 - May 16, 1923], Marie [May, 1924 - May, 1924] , and Veronique [December, 1924 - December, 1924]) and a grandson, Gilbert in 1994.

She is survived by three sons, Henri (Yvette), Antoine (Denise), and Noel. She also leaves 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Gisele Houde; two sisters, Louise Philippe and Rosalie Dondo; and one sister-in-law Eugenie Dondo.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of the second floor, Tache Centre for all their care and compassion extended to our mother.

Prayers will be held on Friday (tonight), February 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, February 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Precieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny St., Father Marcel Chaput presiding. « Car Dieu essuiera toute larme de leurs yeux, et la mort ne sera pl us; ni deuil; ni en; ni douleur ne seront plus. Les choses anciennes ont disparu. » Apocalypse 21:4

-- As published in the Winnipeg Free Press, Friday, February 5, 1999 (with insertion of details about the three infant daughters)

With six others of her family, Marie-Anne was one of the people mentioned on the manifest of the SS Vancouver, as arriving on April 2, 1905, in Halifax, NS, from Liverpool, England. They were seven among 63 members of the following Breton families, nearly all from Guern or nearby villages, some of whom may well have been headed for Red Deer in British territories destined to become what is now Alberta, but a missionary aboard convinced them all(?) to head for St-Claude, instead:

Cloaree, Corbeil, Couronne, Dacquay, Dondo, David, Gloux, Guigneno, Jute, Kervegant, Le Bris, Le Brun, Le Carre, Le Devehet / Le Devehat, Le Franc, Le Francheur, Le Gourrince, Le Mial, Le Pape, Maurre, Puybasset, Philippe, Phillipot, Rebiffe, Zegouzo
