MOTHER OF CHAS. TOMPKINS.

Mrs. Mettie Tompkins Died Suddenly at Home in Elwood.

Mrs. Mettie Tompkins, of Elwood, mother of Charles Tompkins of this city, died suddenly Saturday night at the home of her brother-in-law, Dave Tompkins, on East Main street, at 10 o'clock.

Mrs. Tompkins, who was 69 years of age, was in her usual health and had gone to the home of her brother-in-law to spend the night and they were all expecting to drive to near Arcadia Sunday morning to visit her daughter, Mrs. Will Curnutt. She had gone up stairs to bed, but had not yet retired when she called the relatives to open the stair door as she was coming down, that her head was hurting her. They assisted her down and to a chair, but she passed away in a few minutes.

The deceased, who resided on the county line in Tipton county, has been a widow for several years, and is survived by three children, Charles, Mrs. Curnutt and Mrs. Anna Donaldson, of Florida. No funeral arrangements have been completed as the family is awaiting word from the daughter in Florida. Mrs. Tompkins was the daughter of the late Dr. Granville Newby, of Newby's crossing.
