Aldona F. (Kolosky) Machowski, 83, of New Britain, died Friday (May 17, 1996) at New Britain General Hospital.
Aldona was born in New Haven, CT, April 26, 1913, and was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Kolosky) Kolosky.
Aldona and her husband, John, ran the family business, Machowski Florist, on Farmington Avenue for 53 years.
Aldona was an original charter member of St. Jerome's Roman Catholic Church, serving as a lector, a founding member of St. Jerome's Altar Angels, a member of the Council of Catholic Women, the Small Christian Community, Soroptimist International, the Florist Telegraph Delivery serving as director, treasurer, and secretary of the CT Florist Association.
She was also a member of Oaks, PNA, and Falcons Ladies Auxiliary, and secretary of the New Britain Florists Association.
Aldona is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, John M. Machowski of New Britain; a son, John P. Machowski and his beloved companion, Kathleen McNamara of New Britain; a daughter and son-in-law, Aldona (Machowski) and Joseph Allevo of Ashford; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Anthony Allevo, and her sister, Helen Graham.
Funeral services were held at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jerome's R.C. Church, New Britain, with Aldona's close friend, Rev. James Archambault as celebrant.
Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
