Obituary of TSgt. Lee Morris Pitts, USAF (Ret.)

Lee Morris Pitts was born July 16, 1935, in Schley County, Georgia to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Homer and Elnora Pitts. He was the ninth of ten children all of whom preceded him in death. On April 4, 1970, he was married to Ms. Marianne Mahomes and to this union was born a loving and loyal daughter, Lechel Anne. Lee was not easily excited by many things but just the sound of Lechel’s voice or the appearance of her face brought a bright gleam to his eyes and a giant grin to his face. Unmistakably, she was the light of his life.
Lee was educated in the Americus and Sumter County School System and was graduated from A. S. Staley High School. After graduation, he attended Morehouse College and, subsequently, Fort Valley State College (University). He enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country honorably for twenty years. Upon retiring from the military, he established residence in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he was employed by the United States Postal Service. He was later employed by and was retired, for a second time, from OPM after 20 years of service.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was an avid Sunday School and Church attendee. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #201, Warner Robins GA; American Legion Post 558, Americus, GA, and the Shriners MASAB No. 11 of Macon GA. where he served as Potentate and financial secretary for more than a decade.
He leaves to cherish his memory and perpetuate his legacy of love: his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Mrs. Marianne Mahomes Pitts; his precious daughter, Ms. Lechel Anne Pitts (Columbia, SC); devoted nieces: Emmarene Streeter (Americus, GA), Oneita Releford (Warner Robins, GA), Ruby Jean Owens (Americus, GA), Cassandra Faye Henderson (Albany, GA), Mary Ann Jones and Carol Lynn (Johnny) Lundy (Americus, GA), and Bobbie (Henry) Frost, Atlanta, GA, two aunts: Ms. Eula Mann and Ms. Frankie Hollis (Americus, GA); a special and supportive friend, Hiram Morgan; and a host grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
