In 1874 they moved to Iowa coming in a covered wagon. They first resided on a farm SE of Newell where they lived for 2 yrs. They then moved to their own farm 6 miles N of Newell.
In 1879 Mr. Greenwood departed this life leaving her with six small children in a new country. She stayed and raised her children to be a respectable family and kept them together.
Her surviving children are: John G. Greenwood who has made his home with his mother looking after her wants and needs and who was a great comfort to her in her declining years; Samuel Porter Greenwood of Fenwick, Mich.; Alice Watson of Jamesport, MO.; Emma Rogers of Sac City, Iowa; and Mary Greenwood of Cherokee hospital. Son Henry Greenwood died ten years ago in New Rockford, North Dakota.
Services were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev J.F. Moore. Interment was made in Newell Cemetery.

Some of the details in her obituary are off from the genealogy records I've looked at. I've looked at a record of the ship the family arrived on (the Alexander Grant) in New Orleans from April 30, 1851. Eliza would have just turned 16 years old within the previous week. Their family all previously lived in Little Smeaton, Pontefract, Yorkshire, England, with most church and vital records originating from St. Martin's Parish Church, Womersley, Doncaster, Yorkshire, England, several miles to the north.
