Captain of the first rank Denis Alexandrovich Oparin was one of the 14 crewman who died in a fire onboard a top secret Russian navy's deep-sea research submersible in the Barents Sea. The sub was one of the country's most shadowy military projects. The Russian defence ministry did not initially identify the submersible by name, simply calling it a "deep-sea research vessel" but it was later identified as AS-12 "Losharik." (Bio by Jay Lance)
