Murder Victim. Annie Smyth was a Salvation Army officer who was murdered at the Salvation Army Hall in Wairoa along side her sister Rosamond by convicted criminal Leo Silvester Hannan. She had spent many years in Japan, some thirty-four years, before she was sent to Wairoa to aid her sister. She was the Salvation Army's first overseas missionary.
