Mary Ellen Loretta McGee Stewart Allen, 85, of Towanda, Pa., passed away Sunday morning, June 30, 2019 at the Wyalusing Valley Personal Care Home.

Mary was born at Mills Hospital in Towanda on July 31, 1933, the daughter of Joseph and Edith Kehrer McGee. Mary was a 1950 graduate of Towanda High School and in early years was employed by Sears and the Keystone Theatre in Towanda. On Feb. 27, 1954, she was married to George F. Stewart Jr., whose life was claimed in a motor vehicle accident on April 4, 1961. On July 8, 1987, Mary married Richard W. Allen. Mary was very proud of her Irish heritage and her family was the center of her world.

Known fondly by her family as “Mammy,” Mary will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her faith, strength, and love for her family. It would be Mary’s wish that all would hug their loved ones a little closer today.

Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Richard W. Allen; daughters, Eileen Allen of Towanda, Mary Ellen (Michael) Maurer of Towanda, Diane (Gregg) Lantz of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren, David (Christi) Ausem of Los Angeles, Calif., Richard (Jessica) Ausem of San Diego, Calif., Lara Allen of Towanda, Tara (Jeremy) Sluyter of Towanda, Michael (Elizabeth) Maurer of Towanda, Mallory (Joey) Williamson of Towanda, Thomas (Danielle) Allen of Pleasant Gap, Pa., Kathleen (Ben) Langford of Harrisburg, Pa., Sean Allen of Duncannon, Pa., Brendan (Marin) Lantz of Tallahassee, Fla., MacIver Lantz of Charlotte, N.C., Celine Lantz of Charleston, S.C., Ronda (Chris) Yonkin of Mildred; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Reese, and Kaylen Sluyter of Towanda, Cecilia Chilson of Towanda, Jayden and Alexander Allen, Kahne and Carson Williamson, Jack Langford; brothers, James (Shirley) McGee of Towanda, Joseph (Julie) McGee of Towanda; sisters, Susan (Kevin) Shedd of Williamsburg, Va., JoEllen (Paul) Davis of Austin, Texas; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was predeceased by her first husband, George F. Stewart Jr.; son, George F. Allen; grandsons, John Ausem and George Allen; father and stepmother, Joseph and Virginia McGee; mother and stepfather, Edith and Gerald Ayers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann McGee Cook Tilly, John Cook and Ted Tilly, Teresa and Larry Bailey; and brother, John McGee.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 5, 2019 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Third Street, Towanda, Pa., with the Rev. Edward Michelini, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park, Burlington Township, Pa.

The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the National Centre for Padre Pio, 111 Barto Road, Barto, PA 19504 or to a charity or organization of one’s choice in memory of Mary.
