Glenn joined the U.S. Navy June 16, 1955 as an Aviation Machinist's Mate, served until his reserve obligation January 11, 1963. His experience in the Navy subsequently led him to a career with Delta Air Lines until his retirement. He was involved in testing of the Nuclear Bomb known as "operation hardtack". He lived in Hawaii during the time of testing although he served in many different areas during his military service. He and Shirley traveled many miles across the country in their RV during their retirement years, and made many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hunter Thomas; daughter, Kim Getsay and husband, Lynn of Carthage, Texas; son, Jeff Thomas and wife, Lisa of Elysian Fields, Texas; sisters, Sue Bain and husband, Ed of Grand Cane, Louisiana, Kay Meeks of Grand Cane, Louisiana; grandchildren, Ben Getsay and wife, Ashlee of Cypress, Texas, Shelby Plaschke and husband, Brandon of Hallsville, Texas, Lee Ann Thomas of Marshall, Texas, Lydia Phillips and husband, Levi of Shreveport, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Daisy Plaschke, Callie Getsay and Blake Getsay.
Glenn is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Inez Thomas.
A memorial service for Glenn will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 2:00p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church in Elysian Fields, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Crossroads Baptist Church Building fund.
