JAMES BIRCHFIELD INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH James Harold Birchfield passed away suddenly, Sat urday, August 4, 2007, at the age of 77. Jim was born in Columbus, Georgia to Blanche and James P. Birchfield. He grew up in Opelika, Alabama and attended Opelika High School. There, Jim played football, basketball and baseball. After graduation from high school, he attended Auburn University and he was a pitcher for the Auburn baseball team. He received a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering in 1952. Jim served in the Signal Corps of the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, active duty from 1952 to 1954. Jim later re ceived an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University in 1963. Jims work history took him from RCA Corp in New Jersey, Collins Radio Company and Texas Instruments in Texas and Switzerland, Investment advisor in Dallas, Texas and Harris Cor poration in Melbourne, Florida. From 1980 until 1995, he served as the Director of Inves tor Relations for Harris. He retired in August of 1995. Jim was active at Trinity Presbyteri an Church, serving as an Elder. He was a long standing member of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club. He was a sports enthusiast and he enjoyed golf, traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sue Birchfield. He is also survived by his chil dren and their spouses, Linda Rafael of Omaha, Nebraska, Butch and Vickie Birchfield of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Dan and Jess Birchfield of Lubbock, Texas. Jim was Grandaddy to his nine grandchildren, Liza, Tori and Billy Rafael, Lindsey, Michael, Catherine, Christopher, Nate and Phoebe Birchfield. He also is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Voncile Birchfield and Fred and Nancy Birchfield, both of Opeli ka, Alabama; three nieces and two nephews. Jim was an outgoing and engaging man who enjoyed meeting new people and always had a listening ear available to those around him. He was a gentle soul that will be missed by so many people. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life will be held Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Presbyteri an Church in Satellite Beach. Memorial tributes are sug gested to the Brevard Alzheim ers Foundation, 4676 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32935. Funeral Arrangements are by Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne.
