John Hall was born about 1829 in Baltimore, Maryland. He enlisted with Company D of the famous 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry on 14 March 1863 from Lenox, Massachusetts where he was working as a seaman. A few weeks short of the one year anniversary of the infamous Second Battle of Fort Wagner, he died of sunstroke.
