Our loving mother, Leona lane Smith Long, 89 passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City, Utah.
She was born on March 27, 1922 in Sharon, a daughter to William King and Delpha Arnell Smith.
Leona married Richard King Long on Oct. 17, 1928 in Sharon. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1982.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leona had been a member of the Brigham City 12th and 3rd wards, where she served various callings.
Leona enjoyed crocheting and doing word puzzles.
Surviving are three children, Peggy (John) Ramsay, DeRay (Yolanda) Long, Jack Long, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, two sisters, Wanda Lyon and Lois Larsen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, two sons, Jess and Rex H Long, one brother, Arnell Pete Smith and two sisters, Camilla Lyon and Stella Loomis.
"Leona was kind to everyone, wonderful at handwork, giving, capable, friendly, fun to talk to, willing to help others, never complained, happy, always spoke to others, made others feel good, creative, helpful, kind to my children, responsible, respectful, always willing to help with visiting teaching, included and encouraged other sisters, so talented. She could do anything, she took me places and checked on me-so special, " by a friend of Leona.
The family would like to give a special thank you to hospice care takers and the nurses and aides at Pioneer Care Center.
Graveside services were held Nov. 25 at the Sharon Cemetery.
