A Northampton Co. record shows Dorothy married Martin L. Mellinger on July 7, 1930; despite the location, there is no doubt as the record specifically cites Dorothy's correct parents. In 1937 the couple had a child who lived under 3 weeks. They were living childless in Akron, Pa as of 1940, but by Martin's 1942 draft registration they were divorced. At some point Martin remarried but Dorothy evidently did not and reverted to using her maiden name. Evidently she dedicated herself to a profession, as the "R.N." on her headstone is likely to indicate "Registered Nurse". As of Martin's death there were no surviving children mentioned in his 1979 obit. The draft registration says he has dependents, but the possibility that this refers to children who did not survive to 1979 is very unlikely, given the extremely short time between the 1940 census and Martin's 1942 draft registration; perhaps he was referring to elderly relatives.
