Betty was very active in the First Christian Church, Peru, and loved her church family. She was a stay at home mom until her children were in school. She was a substitute teacher, worked in the offices of Helvey and Associates, was with ASCS. She and her husband purchased Central Murphy Furniture from the family in 1981 and operated it until his retirement in 1992. She also worked for Howard Holdsclaw at Vector Engineering, Ralph Duckwall Associates and the First Christian Church. She was a past president of the Psi Iota Psi sorority and the Peru Library Board. She loved flying and held a private pilot’s license, taught Red Cross swimming, and enjoyed quilting and knitting. Phil and Betty were the first flying trapeze act in the Peru Amateur Circus.
Surviving are her children, Lynda Adams and her husband, Bill, of Roachdale, Carol Parsons of Denver, CO, and Gordon Parsons and his wife, Amanda, of Peru; grandchildren, Cara Wagner and her husband, Andrew, Brian Swisher and his wife, Erin, Bryan Schleppenback, and Jenny Groves and her husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren, Anna Groves, Noah Gail, Jackson Swisher, and several nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating the life of Betty Marie Parsons will be July 6, 2019 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru, Indiana, with Pastor James Loft officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
