Patricia Stella Watkins, 73, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:08 a.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born August 23, 1945 in St. Louis.
She married Jerry Wayne Watkins December 31, 1962 in St. Louis and he passed away on August 23, 2007.
She retired in 1991 from Atlas Van Lines after 10 years of service as an office manager and taught school at Gateway and Rivers of Life Schools from 1994 until 2008.
She was a devoted member of Rivers of Life Community Church in Granite City and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry W. and Dawn Watkins Jr. of Arnold, Missouri and Charles “Travis” and Melissa Watkins of Granite City; eight grandchildren, Krista, Amber, Becca, Rudy Jr., Travis Jr., Brooke, Brittany, Ronnie and Heather; five great grandchildren, Blake, Carter, Emerson, Savannah and Skylar; a brother, Joe Herget of Bunnell, Florida; a sister-in-law, LaVern Swisher of Ballwin, Missouri; special friend, Kathy Thomas of Bedford, Indiana; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Stella (Minker) Herget; a son, Rudy L. Watkins and a brother-in-law, Wayne Swisher.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with her son, Pastor Travis Watkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Memorials may be made to Rivers of Life Church to support the food pantry and may be accepted at the
funeral home.
