US Congressman. Born in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, he was an educator and a lawyer previous to his Congressional career. He was elected as a Republican to represent Pennsylvania’s 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, defeating incumbent Congressman Ephraim L. Acker in 1872, and serving a single term from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. He declined to run again for the seat and it was subsequently occupied by Congressman Washington Townsend. He returned to his law trade after the expiration of his term, and passed away in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1904.
