Andrew Carl "Andy" Gibbons,71, Mesa, Ariz. died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 12, 1935 at Hiawatha, Ks., one of six children of John R. and Anna E Wetzel Gibbons. He started school in Highland ad moved with his family to Robinson when he was in the second grade and later graduated from high school there with the class of 1953. Andy served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1957, he was a military advisor in Iran. While serving with the Army, he traveled in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, Turkey,and Germany, discharged at the rank of SP 3. He attended Manhattan Kansas Christian College and Mohave Community College of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Andy worked construction nearly all his life, retiring in 1997 as an operating engineer in the heavy construction industry. The last 15 years he was superintendent of the heavy costruction projects. Andy was very active in his churches, weather it was in Edwardsville,Ks., Mesa, Ariz., or Robinson, Ks. In the last few years he was a dedicated member at the Hiawatha Christian Center, sharing his many talents as a great teacher and leader. His knowledege and great mind has been shared with his extended family and friends throughout the country. Andy was a member of the Hedrick-Moll Post #148, Robinson American Legion, and served as Scout Master while in Kansas City. Andy and Raylene Newell were married March1, 1958. She survives. Surviving are a son Andrew Carl and wife Serena Gibbons,II Mesa: two grandsons Andrew Carl III and Matthew Jonathan Gibbons; two sisters Dorothy BeDunnah, Robinson, Beverly Mattox Bonner Springs, brother John Prescott Valley ,Az. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Margaret Martin and Virginia Curtis. Services will be at 10:30 April 18th at the Christian Center, Hiawatha. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson, withmilitary services a courtesy of 2nd BN,130th FA Ks. National Guard of Hiawatha.
